bulldog1974, you said you wanted to stop the revolving door, thats why I asked "why hire a 60 year old coach?" And no I wouldn't hire joe pa right now, who would at that age? I'm just curious why a system who wants a coach to stick around and build a program hires someone at the twilight of their career, even if that career has been good or not? And btw this clown is not worried, just curious.

And btw this clown is not worried, just curious. Here's a little reasoning for you to digest.... why hire a successful younger coach, who is working on BUILDING a resume, when you can possibly hire someone with a load of experience and credentials, who lives close by and is not interested in building his career, and would stay as long as you would have him. Someone who loves the game and doesn't want to use it to further his resume. Now the real kicker to swallow is what if he DOES what we think he can and continues to stay like the aboved named coach at Penn State? Think, think hard dude, it could happen.

It sounds like you are basing a lot on assumptions, how could you know anyone's true intentions? This guy has applied for every job in the area...
Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not 100% on this and I'm not going to look it up but didnt joe pa start at penn state in his early thirties, maybe even his 20's. He's been there for like fifty years, that would make this guy 110, dont think this is going to happen. How do you know all young coaches are just trying to build resumes? Cusick didnt do that at Cestview did he, he's young and stayed put? One reason I respect the ITCL is because the sucessfull coaches stay put, at least most of them there are exceptions... Blevins.
I was just curious on the decision to hire an older coach with a place that was trying to build a tradition. That's 5 coaches in the last 10 years with a new one on the way. If the answer is based on the thoughts that a young guy will leave, that's fine, I question no further.
I don't want to bash the man, I really do wish him and the bulldogs luck. I really hope he does perform how you expect. Dude.

I agree.... just from afar it seems that this is just a bandaid and not a permanent solution to the coaching revolving door. Unless you want a figure head such as JoePa that has a supporting cast of coaches that will do all the work while accepting the credit... this not being the case in his younger years but has been for quite a few now ever since his declining health in 04. This being said I am not taking anything away from the coach himself and his proven career... being "of the area" I take pride in our coaches and the ability they have and the life lessons and football they pass on to our kids... kids who aspire to become coaches... and pass on these lessons... thats the revovling coaches door that I am proud of in this community...

If you gentlemen would have paid some attention to what 74 had said awhile ago, you might understand why this move was made. Blevins left to return home, same as Sharkey, so what do you not understand? The new coach is from around here and where would he "go home" to?

I met Coach Mattes at "Meet the Coach " night . He is a young sixty. Big guy, probably 6'5 black hair, nice suit. I think he is just what we need right now, TONS of experience. We need a guy that can make the most out of what he's got. He's used to winning and will mix things up and move players around to find their best strengths. He was a qb in college. He is in the weight room as of last friday.

I agree with Lady Dog. We have had two coaches that have proven that fact....Blevins and Shark....Mattes is next. Now, why don't you fellas go find a nice easy chair and leave the Dogs alone. You all know sooo much about us, but fail to have a true comprehension of us. Go Away....and by the way, nice hiding behind the "guest" name...I would bet you are all ex Huddle jokesters.

wow...hiding...all posting on these boards are hiding whether you put guest or bulldog1974 or anything besides your real first and last name.
Unless you are in the program or in the school teaching and coaching you NEVER REALLY KNOW whats going on so bulldog1974 you are either clueless as the rest of us or a teacher, administrator, or coach in EP and shouldnt be making any comments on these boards anyway.
How do you know that we are not from EP and/or have a interest in the school or program and we just wanted to talk about whats going on?
