South Range looked very good last night against a hard nosed Gilmour squad. The Raiders took advantage of several Lancer turnovers and played tough all night. The new D looked good with Dawson at corner and a fierce pass rush. Biroshack and Lengyl looked really good allnight as well as the rest of the D. Gilmour was a good test for the Raiders as they had several large players on their line (I am not comparing Gilmour's line to Ursuline). SR will have their hands full this week with the Irish. Many people are predicting an ursuline blowout but that Raiders are more than capable of winning this game. Stay focused, work hard, and never give up. Go Raiders! Beat the Irish!

Bob Hannon from WYTV talked about the match-up Friday night. He said player per player Ursuline has superior players, but South Range is a better team. South Range will have to have a TOTAL team effort if they are going to beat the Irish.

In my opinion, South Range will be able to move the ball against Ursuline, possibly for long sustained drives. They definitely will need to SCORE on every opportunity and stop the speedier, explosive athletes from Ursuline from inventing 3 play 80 yard scoring drives to answer long sustained drives. Ursuline's line is absolutely huge, but in the 2 games i have seen(vs Mooney and ST V's) they are undisciplined, they stand straight up and dont hit all that hard for their size. One thing i know for sure, no matter what the score of the game, they are gonna get popped quite frequently by the smaller SR team.... those kids hit like crazy. Its hard to say what will happen in this game, it could be close, Ursuline could blow them out..... but if forced to say one or the other, I am going out on a limb and saying that SRHS will break the streak this year and finally people will have to respect them as a power state-wide, not just in region 17....... Oh, and one final note..... Shame on Ursuline for purposely manipulating their enrollment numbers to drop down to division 5.......JFK, the same to you for doing it to drop to division 6, and so far, JFK got what they deserved, lets hope South Range can make Ursuline wish they weren't afraid of Mooney and had stayed up in D IV where they belong

Having gotten a copy of some game film from Ursuline, they are huge upfront and I wouldn't be surprised if they started the game in double tight and tried to pound the Raiders D with their size advantage. They have a few good running backs led by Mason (One of the top JR in the state) and their QB, McQueen has solid targets at both the WR and TE positions. Their D is loaded and they have speed, speed, speed! Yeagley and his staff will have their hands full getting ready for the Irish. I still believe the Raiders have a great shot at knocking off the Irish.
ITCL: Player per player Ursuline might be more talented but SR has some athletes of its own. They are two great teams, but like Hannon I think SR is the better team.
Fanatic: If SR wants to win they will have to minimize penalties from last week and capatilize on any Ursuline mistakes. Long drives are something the Raiders are very capable of sustaining if they can move the chains. Clock management will be a factor in this game and who ever controls the clock will win the game. Both teams I feel will be able to score on the other so D stops will be huge.
Hopefully the Raiders pull through and are not intimidated. This is the game of these kids lives (until next week) and should be looking forward to every second. Every play counts so play your hearts out and leave it all on the field. Beat the Irish!
Thank you to all of the support the Raiders had this past week against Gilmour. It was great to see other ITCL schools and other schools present (Kirtland, Independence, etc) to cheer on the Raiders. Hopefully everyone will come back to cheer them on again!

It's finally game day! I had a chance this past week to talk to many of the seniors and the rest of the Raider squad and I can tell you that they are going to give it everything they have tonight. This is a war for them and they are willing to die out there rather than lose. They have heard all year that teams are bigger than they are and they are sick of it. Most of the Mahoning Valley has picked Ursuline, but to quote Chris Berman, Thats why they play the game!
Good Luck Raiders and bring back a regional championship to NL!!!
Beat Ursuline!!!!

WOW!!! If their is a better team in DV than Ursuline I will die. The Irish looked rather impressive handling the Raiders tonight. Congrats to the Irish on a great win and represent the MV proud by bringing back a state title!
Congrats to South Range on a great season! You men should be proud of the way you played tonight and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! You hung in there the whole game and never gave up. You were the definition of a TEAM.
Congratulations to all the fine seniors at SR: JC Willison, Ryan Rach, Andrew Padach, Steve Bensinger, Iassac and Joel Melnick, Spencer Owens, Charlie Lengyl, Craig Jones, Jon Guy, Dan Pierce, Jason Bieber, Lucas Higganbotham, Mike Hudak, Levi Kenney, Scott Mentzer, Nick Clegg, Brian Golec, Tom Biroshack, Chris Novak, Senior cheerleading captain Mandie Custer, and the Raider band!

Having been on the sideline for the game, it appeared that South Range was a little bit in awe, while Ursuline was fired up and ready to play. That is not to take anything away from the Raider team. The odds were stacked against them considerable. I do not believe that ANY team from the ITCL could have competed on the same level as Ursuline. East Palestine fans can probably remember a 2002 loss to the Irish 56-7, where they were equally out matched. Congratulations to the Raiders on a fine season!
