Heard today that he passed away yesterday. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I met him once at my grandma's funeral of all places and he seemed to be a very genuine and nice guy

With this web site, we have had the opportunity to talk with coach Saling on many, many occasions. I can not begin to express my deepest sympathy for his family and the entire Southern Local community. I will confirm that he was a truely genuine guy who really cared about his kids.
This past year I recall him walking out on the field during the Leetonia-Southern game to check on injured Bear running back A.J. Bailey. It really impressed me that he went out to check on an opponents player, but on top of it, he gave Bailey some water while the trainers were checking Bailey's ankle. Personnaly, I am left terribly sadded, and will miss him tremendously.
