With the ITCL opinion poll, who do you feel is deserving as the player of the year. I know the skill players get all the publicity, but are there any linemen that are deserving of such an honor?
Personally, I would vote for Columbiana's Josh Hertel. Not only a good fullback for the Clippers, but an oustanding linebacker too.

My vote for ITCL POY is a little bit biased. My vote goes to 3 SR lineman, Seniors Mike Hudak, Levi Kenney, Dan Pierce. These 3 dominated on both sides of the ball grading out high percentage of their blocks on Offense and being stalwarts upfront on D. They helped pave the way for over 3200 yards on the ground and another 700+ through the air while allowing a little over 1300 rushing yards on D. Hudak was named All-NEO 1st team Oline, while Pierce and Kenney were named to the All-NEO 1st team Dline. These are the unsung heroes of the Raiders, and all teams for that matter, the line, where the game is won and lost.
My other votes go to (No particular order): AJ Zitello- Hard to argue against 1700+ yards on the ground Nate Schuler- Doing a lot with a little: Hardest hitter in the ITCL Josh Hertel- Great on both sides of the ball. Lots of TD's and lots of tackles Matt Krumpak-Great Pure Passer Alex Sampson-Great Season with great numbers Josh Selway-Amazing, just simply amazing.

I didn't know that AJ suffered these injuries before the season. I give him credit for playing through these injuries but I question Coach Leone for letting him play. Coach Leone should be looking out for the best interest of Mr. Zitello, those injuries listed can be very dangerous to someone not playing football, not to mention someone who gets hit almost every play running full speed. Granted I don't know the whole situation but thats just my two cents. Coach Leone is a great coach and AJ is a tremendous player, thats just my opinion of the whole situation with knowing all the facts. ;D

Just like raiderqb95, I didn't realize that Zitello had these injuries either. It's quite remarkable that he was able to walk, not only run for 1700+ yards!!! I also wonder what the long term affects of those injuries may have on him later on in life.

My vote goes to Josh Hertel. A dedicated player on both offense and defense.

I was wondering who picked the list. It is a very good list of great players but I was wondering why no one from South Range was on the list? Just Wondering? Is it because they didn't have the stats? If they won the league they probably have someone that should be mentioned. Did their coach not recommend them?

Certainly no disrespect intended toward any South Range players SRdad. The list was compiled by the ITCLFootball.net weekly "players of the week", and the seasonal stats by players in the league.
One draw back (if you can call it that), for South Range is that they spread the ball around so well that most seasons they do not have any ONE player with great stats. They end up with several players with very, very good stats. Although coach Yeagley is extremely supportive, and promotes the site on the Raiders football site, he made no input into the poll. I agree that as Upper Tier champions they could have had Dawson, Bensinger, Lengyel, or Willison as potential candidates, but as you said, the poll is a little more stats oriented. My apology if you feel I missed someone who should be considered.
I will also concede that the opinion poll software only has a set number of choices to list in a poll. I could have listed several more candidates that are equally deserving of being considered. Please use the "OTHER" choice if there is someone who you feel is deserving of a vote. Thanks for your interest in the web site, and the opinion poll.

Thank You for your reply. Stats are so deceiving. SR did have multiple weapons this year and they were fun to watch. I didn't follow your picks for players of the week who in turn became players of the year nominees. Did any SR players get player of the week honors?

I really wish that the player of the year wasin't based on the players of each week. Sure, a kid could have a stellar game, then not do anything the rest of the year. I wish it would be based on consistenty. A.J. Zitello had some amazing games, against some "weak" run defenses, and against Columbiana and Range, he really did not do all that well. But i am sure he ran wild against a team like... Lisbon. Jack Dawson, Josh Hertel, Steve Bensinger, or Ryan Williams would have to get my vote. I see those four as being consistent week in and week out.
Yes, there are some linemen that are deserving of this honor... I am biased being a raider fan, but at least give one of them something they deserve... since the best offensive line in the league got just got player on first team. I would say either first team offensive linemen Michael Hudak or Offensive Tackle Levi Kenney should get the award.

First of all aj had 1700 yards i dont know how consistant you would have to be to get them yards but i think thats still crazy. and Columbiana and South Range knew to load the box when they went against the ridge to slow the running attack down. I question this persons opinion on the last response.

He rushed for like 30 yards or something against south range, if i remember correctly south range stayed in their 3-5... or 5-3 defemse with their base cover 3... racking up 300+ yards against lisbon is not really saying all that much, what it basically says is that they needed to take their starters out a little earilier. Did south range even play their starters in the second half?
